BackgroundBacterial strains ofStreptococcus pyogenesare commonly associated with infectious disease due to drug-resistant infections. In the last 10 years, several types of bacteria have been found to be more susceptible to drug-resistant strains ofS. pyogenesthan normal strains ofand are being studied as drug-resistant strains.
Case ReportWe were first to observe a novel gene transfer betweenandBartonella freundiiusing the plasmid pCR8-Myc-M. This transfer results in a rapid growth of the cell and an increase in the level of the drug-sensitive gene in the cell population of thestrain.
We then used this transfer to test the effect of a small amount of the drug on the growth ofstrains ofthat were resistant to the antibiotic.
We also observed that when the antibiotic was added in the second part of the experiments (titration of the drug to thestrain) we observed that the growth of thestrains was not affected by the antibiotic.
